Why would anyone to buy an electric scooter that costs 2,700 USD? This is a question I asked myself after a representative of MiniMotors USA suggested that I try a new company. Dualtron Victor. That’s also a question asked to me by a colleague, who rode an e-scooter for under $ 500.
After a few weeks of driving … well, I get it. This is the only scooter I’ve ridden that has a feeling like it is made for long journeys. I took it on a 24 mile cruise from Brooklyn to New Jersey, with another 30 percent battery left in the tank. It’s probably the furthest I’ve ever traveled standing upright!
It’s so powerful that it casually zooms in on the steep hills that would cripple most e-scooters, and the suspension makes for a ride with pillows. There are a few difficulties – and one big scam – but this thing is practically perfect.
Breeze Through Setup
Victor arrived at my doorstep in a huge, heavy box. No, I don’t know who Victor is, but I’m glad this e-scooter only takes a few minutes to set up. Tighten the clamp on the holder, then open the handlebar and secure it with the appropriate clamps.
There is a hook at the end of the deck so you can fold it over the handlebars. It keeps the stem from collapsing when stored, and makes Victor much easier to carry. I should mention my biggest problem here: it’s tough. That’s 73 pounds, which is even more than most electric bicycles. Even the curb lift is awkward. Fortunately, I live in an apartment with an elevator. But there was a day when the elevator didn’t work and … well, let’s just say the staircase heard some chosen words.
It’s impossible to find a similar scooter with this much range and power at a much lighter weight, but that doesn’t mean I won’t complain about it. If you can you manage to lift it, it will fit in the trunk. It is surprisingly compact when folded.
Victor is almost fully equipped. There are headlights, taillights and rear and front fenders. (The bell would be nice.) It also has LEDs that illuminate the underside of the deck, and the Dualtron mark on the steering wheel glows like an RGB gaming computer. You can adjust the lighting colors and patterns with the supplied remote.
You will need to turn on the power switch at the bottom of the deck before you can turn on the Victor, via the control panel on the upper right steering wheel. Here is the Mode button to change the driving data on the screen, and the third button (with a dot on it) will change the speed of the e-scooter. These three gears will regulate your speed. For example, first gear limits you to 15 miles per hour.
