The 2021 New York Auto Show has been canceled. , organizers have postponed the annual spring event to August to try to avoid the worst of the current coronavirus pandemic. However, they say their hand is now being forced because of a growing number of hospital cases involving a variant of the COVID-19 delta and increasingly drastic measures taken by state and local officials to prevent its spread.
“As custodians of the 121st New York Auto Show, we are committed to providing a safe environment for everyone, including visitors, exhibitors, and the thousands of men and women who hosted the exhibit,” said Mark Schienberg, president of the New York Auto Show. “In the last few weeks, and especially in the last few days, circumstances have changed and it has made it difficult to create events to the high standards that we and our clients expect.”
It is not clear at this time what this cancellation will mean for vehicles like this who were to perform at the exhibition. Organizers say they “firmly believe” that the event will not return until 2022, but will do so within the usual spring deadline.
