Diablo Immortal it may be a game for small screens, but that doesn’t mean it’s a small developmental feat. It is for this reason that Activision Blizzard has postponed the release Diablo Immortal until the beginning of 2022.
The action RPG was originally supposed to arrive on iOS and Android devices this year, but developers need more time to fine-tune PvP content, improve the PvE experience and implement additional accessibility features, according to Blizzard. Here’s how the developers posted it in their blog post:
After the feedback given by the participants of the Closed Alpha test, our team adjusted the basic and final functions. For example, we repeat PvP content like Cycle of Strife to make it more accessible, in addition to PvE content from late games like Helliquary to make it more appealing. We are also working to provide controller support to those who want to play our game in a different way. However, these changes and additional opportunities to improve our gaming experience will not materialize in the 2021 timeframe we previously communicated about. So, the game is now scheduled to come out in the first half of 2022, which will allow us to add significant improvements to the whole game.
Blizzard goes on to describe special features it will focus on, such as adding PvE Raid, customizing Bounties, and improving Challenge Rifts. In terms of PvP customization, Blizzard will work on improving connectivity, earning rankings, class balance, killing time, and other elements of the Battleground system, and will further shed light on the final content of the conflict cycle. All of this is accompanied by a series of changes in the progression and limitations of XP.
Developers seem to be at an early stage when it comes to getting Diablo Immortal to play nicely with gamepads.
“We’re still working on the challenges of customizing the touch screen controls to the controller,” he writes on the blog. “The highlight is thinking about making our game more accessible, and we will share more progress on this plan as we approach the beta.”
Blizzard has second things now and on a plate. Activision Blizzard faces a a lawsuit for sexual harassment and gender discrimination from the State of California and Blizzard President J. Allen Brack left the company today amid allegations that he overlooked workplace harassment for years. Blizzard’s head of human resources, Jesse Meschuk, also left the studio this week. A second lawsuit which shareholders filed today, arguing that Activision Blizzard did not disclose potential regulatory issues regarding the fraternal-style discriminatory culture.
