Demon Slayer: Mugen Train the film was a big box office hit by entertainment company and streaming service Funimation. Riding high on success of that, the company is set to release another animated film, Knights of Sidonia: Love woven in the stars, based manga by Tsutomu Nihei.
You may have known the Knights because they’ve been on Netflix for two seasons. However, according to the deadline, Funimation has acquired ownership rights and will begin the first and second seasons of streaming on its platform from August 3rd. The animated film is directed by Tadahiro ‘Tady’ Yoshihira, and the screenplay is signed by Sadayuki Murai and Tetsuya Yamada, and Polygon Pictures stars as manufacturers. The film will have a limited Japanese cinema release with English subtitles and English dub, and will serve as the conclusion of the series.
Mitchel Berger, Funimation The Vice President of Global Commerce Global Group spoke about his love for the series. “Knights of Sidonia is an adventure story in the true sense of the word with woven epic battles and romance. We can’t wait to share the conclusion of their story with fans in theaters this September, he says. “And what better way to prepare for the final battle coming to the cinemas than reliving where it all started with anime series that aired on Funimation. We are thrilled to be working with Polygon Pictures to enrich the franchise. ”
Knights of Sidonia is a series of mechanics set in 3394 and follows Nagate Tanikaze, a Guard pilot in training. These pilots are the line of defense that protects the human population on the spaceship Sidonia from the alien species Guana that changes shape.
