Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander opens on status of Tomb Raider 2.
When the sequel to the 2018 film was announced last fall, Vikander told Entertainment Weekly, “The plan was to start production this year, of course because [pandemic] situation, it is now quite different. We’re still talking about it, so I hope we’ll probably get to that next year. ”
Recently interview with Collider (where the initial theme was a David Lowery film The Green Knight), Vikander discusses how not much has changed. “Before COVID, I would say yes. And now I think that’s still yes. It’s not a green light, but a scenario is emerging. And I think everyone is excited, and I would love to visit Lara again. ”
The film underwent some changes because director Ben Wheatley was the original choice for the helm of another Tomb raider. However, in January 2021. Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green has taken over Wheatley and is currently working on a new version of the script. “It really is now that the world is moving again, and Miša is on the ship, and he is currently working on the script. So I am very excited to read something soon. ”
This is the second time Tomb raider was on the big screen. Angelina Jolie held Lara Croft’s cloak from 2001 to 2003 with films Tomb raider and continued Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. From Tomb raider video games restarted, the recent film is closer to a newer version of Croft’s character and her archaeological travels.
No one was sure that another film would come because the 2018 version received marginal reviews from critics and low box office sales. But it seems to be moving slowly. I guess future updates will determine the fate of the film.
