Yes, you can finally upgrade your SSD storage to a PS5 – a console that already requires fairly large game file files. That’s a lot more complicated from turning on the USB drive, however. You must first be a PS5 beta user in the US, Canada and parts of Europe. Then you need a PCIe Gen4 SSD for read speeds of 5,500 MB / s or more – there are options from Samsung, Western Digital and Seagate.
But that’s not the end of the matter. Sony notes in its SSD upgrade guide that you must also consider the PS5’s cooling mechanism. This means that you may need to add a heatsink to your SSD or choose a compatible SSD with a built-in cooling structure.
Oh, there has to be a refrigerator of the right size, too. Sony suggests that you do the entire installation in a well-lit room, the lamp is “optional”. Literally it says.
Have you bought a new generation console so you don’t have to think too much about things like this? Excuse me. It’s time to measure the refrigerator. This feature will be introduced to users who do not have a beta version of the PS5 later this year.
(TLDR: Western Digital Black SN850 refrigerator model should work if you want to upgrade your PS5 storage.)

Nothing, the long-teased launch product is almost there. Its wireless headphones with a transparent case look great, cost $ 100 and, perhaps a little surprisingly, sound pretty good. Ear 1s are a bit temperamental with connectivity – and more expensive headphones sound better – but nothing has delivered some sleek buds to arrive in the US next month. Mat Smith tests them.
