In response to renewed concern about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and spreading delta variant, Disney is taking a big step to ensure that all of its employees in the U.S. are protected from the virus.
Disney’s new term comes shortly after graduation lambasted actress Scarlet Johansson due to the termination of the lawsuit against the company Black widow in which he claims that the studio diminished it by not giving the film an exclusive cinematic release. In statement posted this afternoon, Disney announced that it now orders all of its employees and unions to receive a salary vaccinated against COVID-19 out of a desire to keep them safe as they continue to work to break the pandemic. Both on-site and teleworkers will need to receive the vaccine, and the company will only hire those who have been vaccinated in the future. “Employees who have not already been vaccinated and are working on site will have 60 days from today to complete their protocols, and all employees who continue to work from home will need to submit a vaccination certificate before returning, with certain limited exceptions,” the explanation said.
Disney’s announcement comes at a time when a number of other companies are liking it Google and Facebook they made similar moves amid growing concerns about the virality and severity of the delta variant, which most affects the unvaccinated. Disney’s statement also elaborates that the decision was made after talks with unions on how best to address this specific issue, and insisted that the company believes in vaccines because they are “the best tool we can all help control this global pandemic” and protect our employees. “At Walt Disney, the safety and well-being of our employees during the pandemic has been and continues to be a top priority. To that end, and based on the latest recommendations from scientists, healthcare professionals, and our healthcare professionals that the COVID-19 vaccine provides the best protection against severe infections, we require that all hourly non-union employees work in any U.S. of our sites be fully vaccinated. Employees who have not already been vaccinated and are working on site will have 60 days from today to complete their protocols, and all employees who continue to work from home will be required to submit a vaccination certificate prior to return, with certain limited exceptions. We have also started discussions on this topic with the unions representing our employees under collective agreements. In addition, all new employees will need to be fully vaccinated before starting employment. Vaccines are the best tool we all have in controlling the global pandemic and protecting our employees. ”
In the coming weeks, vaccination rates will directly affect how much Covid-19 continues to expand, and from a business perspective, it’s in Disney’s best interest to encourage its employees not to catch the virus responsible for bringing more industries to a standstill last year.
