The CEO of Spotify does not believe the platform has editorial responsibility for podcasts

Joe Rogan’s podcast has become one of the most listened to shows Spotify since the platform added it to its lineup last year. He also became one of the most controversial because of Rogan’s choice of guests and his own views. Spotify has no plans to do anything about it, as the company’s CEO doesn’t believe the platform should have any impact on podcast content. When Axios asked Spotify CEO Daniel Ek in an interview if the company should have editorial responsibility for podcasts like Rogan, Ek replied that Rogan is just one of many of its content creators.

Axios pointed out that Rogan may be just one of them, but he is also one of the highest paid. Eck, however, replied that rappers earn tens of millions of dollars from the platform, but even Spotify does not dictate what they can put in their songs. Rogan signed a $ 100 million contract with an audio streaming service in May 2020 The experience of Joe Rogan available to Spotify listeners. Before the end of the year, the podcast became exclusive to Spotify.

According to a Wall Street Journal a report from last year, Spotify employees expressed concern about material in their podcast that they consider anti-transgender. Rogan has had several polarizing figures in the show since his platform debut. Among them is Abigail Shrier, the author Irreparable damage: The madness of transgender people seduces our daughters, i InfoWars owner Alex Jones who spread coronavirus misinformation on the podcast. Recently, Rogan said he doesn’t think people should get the COVID-19 vaccine, although he withdrew and told the listeners that you don’t take his advice seriously.

Spotify’s latest earnings report states that Rogan’s podcast was “above expectations”. It is obvious that everything he does persuades people to get involved, so the company probably sees no reason to interfere.
