Meet Troy Baker, the actor behind some of your favorite video game voices

We spoke with Baker about his career, working from home during the coronavirus pandemic, what was going on behind the scenes, and his approach to acting.

As a child, Baker aspired to be a musician. Occasionally, his career path intersects with musical interests, but Baker appreciates that he has no stress from relying on music as his primary source of income. “I like the fact that I do it recreationally; I don’t have to do it professionally. It takes a lot of pressure. “I can sit at my piano or take a guitar and play, and not a single dollar is included,” Baker said.

Early in his career, Baker worked for FUNimation and filmed a number of anime series, including Dragon Ball z. “I cut my teeth and learned what my voice is capable of,” he said. “It was like my theater.” Going back to the roots of English dubbing in 2018, Baker voiced Baki’s title role in Netflix’s relaunch of the popular Japanese ange turned into a manga.
