A report from last week hinted at some of them Netflix’s gaming ambitions. In its earnings report for the second quarter of 2021, the company has confirmed some things. First, Netflix says it will initially be “primarily focused” on mobile devices, seeking to expand its interactive projects like Black Mirror Bandersnatch and his games Stranger Things. Upcoming titles will be available at no extra cost as part of your subscription, and the company was clear that it will keep up in movies and on television.
“We see the games as another new category of content for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animations and TV without scripts,” the company said in a letter to shareholders.
2020 was a big year for Netflix. As everyone else was stuck at home and the cinema closed, the streaming service attracted 16 million new customers in three months. As expected, in 2021 this pace has slowed dramatically and new customer numbers continue to represent a struggle. In its earnings report, the company says it added 1.5 million subscribers in Q2, which was actually a little better than the projected estimate of one million. However, it is lower than Q1 2021, which noted that the company accepted 3.98 new customers worldwide.
Netflix says it predicts the number of new customers will reach 3.5 million in Q3 2021, up from 2.2 million during the same quarter a year ago. If it does, the company explains that the total number of new subscribers would rise to 54 million in the last two years. The pace may have slowed down Netflix, but overall everything is going just fine. Revenue continued to grow 19 percent from a year earlier, to $ 7.3 billion for the quarter.
According to Netflix’s own numbers, Shadow and bone was a popular series this quarter, carrying over 55 million “member households” in less than a month. The show has already been renewed for the second season based on those numbers. Sweet tooth the series based on DC comics, the first month when it was available, was broadcast by 60 million households. Unwritten series like Too hot to handle i Circle were popular choices, as were real criminal records Sons of Sam. As for the movies, Zac Snyder An army of the dead hit 75 million households in the first month. Netflix also explained this Mitchells vs. The Machines is now his biggest animated film to date, aired by 53 million households.
Netflix says production delays associated with COVID have led to a “light” first half of 2021 in terms of content, but the pace will grow over the rest of the year.
