The Exploration tab can sometimes feel like the Wild West. The feed displays recommended posts from accounts you don’t follow, but you never really know what you’ll see. It can contain a photo, video or it’s potentially annoying – even if it doesn’t violate the platform’s rules.
To alleviate this, Instagram is sensitive content control option. The goal is to allow you to choose how much sensitive content you see in the Explore feed and gives you more control over how you use Instagram. You can customize the filter by going to Application Settings and then tapping Account and Sensitive Content Control.
You will be able to reduce the number of sensitive posts in the Explore feed by selecting “Limit even more”. You can also turn off the filter by switching from the “Restriction” option to “Allow” (however, this option will not be available to users under the age of 18). You can change the setting at any time.
Among the types of content is Instagram are depictions of violence (although it removes graphic violence). “Sexually explicit or suggestive” posts are also considered sensitive, such as photos or videos showing someone in see-through clothing – the platform does not allow posts containing nudity or sexual activity.
If you have a sensitive content filter turned on, Instagram can also stop posts from appearing that promote the use of some prescribed items in the Explore feed. These products include adult products and services, tobacco and vaping products and pharmaceuticals. Instagram removes most content related to sales or commerce .
