Rumors about CNN streaming service were the truths. The network has discovered A CNN + service that will offer a mix of live and on-demand shows that are “separate and different” from existing TV coverage. It will debut sometime in the first quarter of 2022. CNN has not narrowed the price, but CEO Andrew Morse told Diversity u interview that there will be no ad-supported levels at launch.
The centerpiece, as you would expect, will be the living material. CNN + plans to offer eight to 12 hours of detailed thematic report and “lifestyle” material daily, with veterans and newcomers. You will also have the opportunity to interact with facilitators and experts in real-time discussions. It then won’t be a digital replica of CNN’s usual news, but you may have reason to tune in every day.
The on-demand catalog, surprisingly, enters CNN’s existing collection, including shows like Anthony Bourdain: Parts unknown i United Shades of America. There will be original shows and movies for the Internet service, although CNN + will only reveal them later in 2021.
Morse has officially said that CNN + will not be affiliated or otherwise affiliated with HBO Max despite the WarnerMedia connection. Diversity sources, however, claimed that there was a “high probability” that the service would then be bundled with HBO Max and Discovery + WarnerMedia and Discovery finalize their merger.
Morse considered CNN + the launch of the largest the network has had since launching the TV service in June 1980. It was also an opportunity to experiment with formats that blur the distinction between entertainment and news, the CEO added.
The question, of course, is whether viewers will bite. CNN has had success in long-running content like shows by the late Anthony Bourdain, but it’s not clear if people are willing to pay a monthly fee to see them. There is a thing streaming service overload – You may not be thrilled to subscribe to another offer just to make sure you catch everything CNN has to offer.
