Tumbler’s parent company is buying the popular Pocket Casts podcast app

Co-founders Russell Ivanovic and Philip Simpson will remain at the helm of the Pocket Casts team. Automattic already seems to be thinking of ways to embed a multi-platform application into its blogging tools.

“As part of Automattic, Pocket Casts will continue to provide you with the features you need to enjoy your favorite podcasts (or find something new),” . “We will explore building deep integrations with WordPress.com and Pocket Casts, making it easier to distribute and listen to podcasts.”

And blogs and podcasts use an RSS feed for distribution, so the integration of the two platforms makes sense. Earlier this year, Anchor owned Spotify teamed up with WordPress.com for through text-to-speech technology. It will be interesting to see how Pocket Casts affects that partnership, if at all.
