French horror Roy (The Cloud) blows Netflix August 6, 2021
As the first feature film directed by Just Philippot, the film traveled the festival circle. Screenings were held at the 2020 Cannes Critics’ Week Roy won a special jury award and the award for best actress at the international Sitges 2020 Fantastic Film Festival. The new trailer fell on the Netflix youtube channel and I never knew locusts could be so scary.
Roy follows Virginie (Suliane Brahim), a mother who lives with her two children Laura (Marie Narbonne) and Gaston (Raphael Romand), on a crumbling farm where she raises edible locusts to save her home. Her life is turned upside down when she learns that her pet insects have a taste for blood, and now she has to keep the swarm contained before the bugs erupt and terrorize other people.
If you know anything about it French horror, this is not going to be some typical bug movie, and the trailer pretty much solidifies this tone. This will be slow burning and will have deeper and darker threads outside the blood-sucking locusts and will likely end badly for everyone involved.
Take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think.
